Born David Bissett in Bewdley in England's West Midlands and raised in Sheffield, Cloonee chose his stage name after Cloone Lake in Ireland, a place he frequently visited with his grandfather who was a significant influence in his life. He began producing and DJing as a teenager, teaching himself through YouTube tutorials and online forums, and released his debut EP Estes in 2017, which climbed into Beatport's Tech House Top 10. His career accelerated rapidly from there: early support from Michael Bibi, PAWSA, and Solardo led to a signing with Solid Grooves Raw, and his 2018 breakthrough track The Ciggie established him as a serious force in the underground. In 2019 he scored his first Beatport Tech House number one with Be Good to Me on Big Beat Records and was named Beatport's eighth best-selling tech house artist of the year. An invitation from production powerhouse Chris Lake brought him to Los Angeles in 2021, a move that transformed him both musically and personally. Falling in love with Latin music, Latin rhythms, and the Mexican and Hispanic communities surrounding him in LA, he began incorporating those influences into his sound.
