Born Khadimou Rassoul Cheikh Fall on September 10, 1998, in New York City to Senegalese parents, Sheck Wes grew up in Harlem navigating basketball courts, modelling gigs, and the streets before his rebellious streak earned him a stint at an Islamic school in Senegal at 17, an experience that sharpened his focus and deepened the cultural friction that powers his music. Back in New York and determined to make his mark, he signed with Travis Scott's Cactus Jack Records and Kanye West's GOOD Music in February 2018, releasing his debut album Mudboy later that year. Anchored by the anthemic Mo Bamba, a furious, stripped-down tribute to his childhood friend and NBA star Mohamed Bamba, the album hit number 17 on the Billboard 200 while Mo Bamba shot to number six on the Hot 100 and earned triple platinum certification, becoming one of the defining rap songs of its era and a perennial crowd-rouser at sporting events nationwide.
